Two hands holding Raised Garden Blend soil

Raised Garden Blend

$72.50 per cubic yard

Our compost premixed with locally sourced sand and soil. Fill a raised bed or planter and plant the same day. The sand keeps Nebraska clay from baking hard in August and drowning roots in May.

  • A 4 by 8 foot bed, 12 inches deep, takes about 1.2 yards
  • Fill to an inch below the rim; it settles a little the first season
  • Top-dress with an inch of compost each spring after that

Pile of screened Nebraska Blend topsoil

Nebraska Blend Top Soil

$57.50 per cubic yard

Screened topsoil for when you need volume, not fertility: raising a grade, filling the hole the stump left, leveling a lawn before seed, backfilling along a foundation.

  • One yard covers about 100 square feet at 3 inches
  • Lawn repair: spread an inch or two, rake smooth, seed or sod
  • Use it as the base under Garden Blend in deep beds so you're not paying compost prices for fill

Natural wood mulch ground from Nebraska trees

Nebraska Blend Mulch

Natural $26 · Chocolate $38 per cubic yard

Ground from Nebraska trees that came through our drop-off yard and grinding jobs, then double screened. Natural weathers to silver-grey over a summer. Chocolate gets a non-toxic, water-based dye and stays dark brown through the season.

  • Spread 2 to 3 inches deep; keep it an inch back from trunks and stems
  • One yard covers about 160 square feet at 2 inches
  • Spread Chocolate on dry ground so the color doesn't track

No pallet wood, construction lumber, or treated or painted wood goes into it.

Measure the area in feet and pick a depth in inches. Round up: material settles, and nobody has ever regretted having a wheelbarrow extra.

Estimates only. Prices as of October 2026 and don't include delivery.

Rules of thumb

One cubic yard covers about 160 square feet at 2 inches, 108 square feet at 3 inches, or 81 square feet at 4 inches.

A standard 4 by 8 foot raised bed, 12 inches deep, takes about 1.2 cubic yards.

One cubic yard is 27 cubic feet: about 27 one-cubic-foot bags or 14 two-cubic-foot bags.

Mulch goes on 2 to 3 inches deep. Compost worked into a bed is 2 to 3 inches. Compost top-dressed on a lawn is a quarter to half an inch.

A half-ton pickup carries about a yard of mulch, or half a yard of soil or compost.

Delivery

We deliver on orders of 5 cubic yards or more. Smaller amounts are pickup only at the Downtown Omaha yard, where we load your truck or trailer for you.

Delivery is charged by the truck and the time, separate from the product. Most deliveries inside the Omaha metro land at or near the minimum. Longer runs, tight access or a second trip cost more, and we'll tell you the number before the truck leaves. We serve the greater Omaha metro and the Ashland and Gretna areas; call for anything farther out.

Our trucks carry one material at a time cleanly. Order compost and mulch on one truck and some mixing happens where the piles meet. If that matters, ask for separate trucks.

Before the truck arrives

Pick the spot. A driveway or a flat, firm patch of yard the truck can back to. Soft lawns and new concrete are not good spots.

Mark it. A tarp, cones or chalk so the driver knows where to dump.

Clear the approach. Low branches, parked cars and basketball hoops are the usual problems. A dump truck needs about 14 feet of overhead clearance with the bed up.

Be reachable. We'll call the number on the order if there's a question on site.

FAQ: questions we get at the yard

How do I get your products?

Two ways. Pick up at the Downtown Omaha yard, 1725 Avenue G, during yard hours. There is no minimum and no order needed, and we load your truck or trailer for you. Or have 5 cubic yards or more delivered. Delivery is charged by the truck and the time, separate from the product, and starts at $132.50 for a dump truck; the delivery section has the numbers. Contractors can also pick up at the Ashland compost farm by appointment.

If two products ride on the same truck, some mixing happens where the piles meet. Ask for separate trucks if that matters for your project.

Do I have to shovel it into my truck?

No. At the Downtown yard we drop loose material straight into your truck or trailer with the skid steer. For small amounts, bring buckets, bins or a tarp for the trunk; there are shovels at the yard you can use. If you don't own a truck, renting an open-top pickup for the morning is the easy way to move a yard or two.

Can I buy it in bags?

Only the compost, and only sometimes. We bag Organic Matters! compost now and then at $7 per cubic foot; call ahead to check. Garden Blend, topsoil and mulch are sold loose by the cubic yard, which is also the cheaper way to buy compost.

How clean is the compost?

Every batch is lab-tested. Industrial composting runs hot enough to kill weed seeds, pathogens and the bacteria you don't want, while the fungi and microbes that feed your plants come through fine. Everything cures for up to a year and goes through a half-inch screen before it's sold. Manure only comes from stables we've checked are using products that break down in the pile.

Because the material comes from thousands of Omaha homes, schools and restaurants, the odd small piece of glass or plastic can slip through the screen. Pick it out and keep going; it doesn't hurt the compost.

Why is my compost clumpy?

Straight compost clumps, especially after rain or a few weeks sitting in a pile. Nothing is wrong with it. Step on the clumps or knock them apart with a rake and spread it as normal. Raised Garden Blend has sand mixed in, so it stays loose.

Why isn't it black?

A lot of people picture healthy soil as black and loamy. Color depends on what went into the pile and where you live. Ours is dark brown, which is what finished compost made from Nebraska food scraps and yard waste looks like. Judge it by how your plants do.

How do I pay?

Cash, check or card at the yard. Card over the phone for deliveries. Contractors and landscapers can open a credit account and get billed instead.

What's different about your compost?

Most compost sold around Omaha is made from yard waste alone. Ours starts with food scraps from Omaha restaurants, schools and homes, plus yard waste and manure from local stables, so the finished compost carries a wider mix of nutrients and a lot more biology. We're also the only industrial composting facility in the metro, so what you spend here stays here. And if you're in the Compost Club, your own food scraps are part of it.

How does it compare with Oma-Gro?

Oma-Gro is made mainly from yard waste. Ours adds food scraps and manure, which means more variety in what feeds the pile and more variety in what ends up feeding your garden. We put the two side by side, prices included, on the Oma-Gro comparison page.

Ready to order?

Pick up: no order needed. Come to 1725 Avenue G, Omaha, Monday to Friday 8am to 3:30pm, or Saturday 8am to noon April through Thanksgiving. Bring a truck, a trailer, or your own buckets and a tarp. Directions, because GPS tends to stop short.

Delivery or a big pickup: call (402) 332-4710 ext. 5 during yard hours with the product, the number of yards and the address, or send the order form and we'll call you back to confirm. First time ordering? Read the FAQ first, especially the part about pickup versus delivery.
