Looking for Oma-Gro? Here's how our compost compares
Oma-Gro is the City of Omaha's compost, and a lot of Omaha gardens were built on it. In May 2026 the City moved its composting operation and paused bagged Oma-Gro production for about 18 months, so plenty of people are hunting for it this season. If that's you, here is the honest comparison, including the ways Oma-Gro and Soil Dynamics compost are not the same thing.
The short version
Oma-Gro is made mostly from yard waste: leaves, grass and brush collected by the City. Soil Dynamics compost starts with food waste. Scraps from Omaha restaurants, schools and homes, collected by Hillside Solutions and the Compost Club, are composted with yard and tree waste and manure from local stables. More kinds of material going in means more going on in the finished product.
$72.50 per cubic yard · $7 per cubic foot bagged when available
We will not be the cheapest compost in town, and we would rather say that up front than have you find out at the yard. What you are paying for is the feedstock, the cure time and the testing.

Using Soil Dynamics compost where you used Oma-Gro
It works the same way. Top-dress a lawn with a quarter to half an inch in spring or fall, work two to three inches into a new bed, or mix it into the soil around trees and shrubs. It is unblended compost, so for raised beds you will want to mix it with soil, or buy our Raised Garden Blend, which already has compost, sand and soil in it.
Where to get it
Soil Dynamics Yard, 1725 Avenue G, Omaha. Monday to Friday 8am to 3:30pm, and Saturday 8am to noon from April through Thanksgiving. Delivery is available on orders of 5 cubic yards or more.

Soil Dynamics is the composting arm of the same locally owned team as Gretna Sanitation and Hillside Solutions. How the three fit together.
