Locally sourced & produced compost, mulch & soil

Omaha's compost, soil and mulch, made from Omaha's food and yard waste

We run the Omaha metro's only industrial compost farm. Food scraps from local restaurants, schools and homes, plus Nebraska tree and yard waste, become the compost, soil blends and mulch you pick up by the yard or have delivered.

Why our compost costs more than bagged compost

Ours is made here, from material that would otherwise go to the landfill, and it is tested and cured for up to a year before it is sold. The price covers the time it takes to do that properly.

Need food scraps picked up from your business?

That's handled by Hillside Solutions, the recycling and composting arm of our team. Everything they collect ends up here, as the compost you buy.

How food scraps become compost

Food scraps from Omaha restaurants, schools, hospitals and homes come to Soil Dynamics along with the tree and yard waste dropped at our yard. We grind the woody material, mix it with the food scraps, and build the mix into long piles called windrows. We turn and monitor the piles while heat and microbes break everything down, then let the compost cure before screening it.

It takes months, and it keeps that material out of the landfill, where it would release methane instead of feeding Omaha soil.
